foundation Mama

Dedicated in Memory of Sandy
It's times for me to share with you the things I've come to know,
Since you were stricken with a heart attack just two short weeks ago.
At first the fear-it clutched my soul and robbed me of Gods grace.
Before too long in the midst of pain I began to see Gods face.

The things I took for granted are too numerous to share.
At first the guilt consumed me it was more than I could bare.
I called out to the Savior and He firmly took my hand.
He gently lead me out of this dry and thirsty land.

"How Firm A Foundation" is a hynm that led us through.
It speaks of God's sweet mercy always being true.
No matter what it looks like to the puny human eye.
He sees our great affliction and His peace we can't deny.

The Lord helped us leave you on the alter in His will.
He taught us perseverance as you lay there meek & still.
He brought you to the point where there was nothing man could do.
He gave us the assurance that only He could bring you through.

We all drew close together-there were precious moments shared.
Go unified His body, as one purpose we all bared.
We came to one conclusion-that our Father knows what's best.
We all, both weak and weary found in Him such sweet, sweet rest.

The greatest treasure I have gained as I look back today,
Is the blessed calm assurance that my Lord is here to stay.
No matter what He sends my way I do not need to fear.
For He will not forsake me and He'll keep His presence near.

We all know with certainty your life you'd freely give,
That others would know Jesus and for Him only live.
As we say good-bye my dear friend, may we remember with deep thought,
All the mercy that He's poured out and the lessons that He's taught.

Note about this poem:
I wrote a couple of years ago to Sandy a very close friend who die of a heart attack at the age of 37. She was the wife of my pastor & leaving behind two young children and they were only 5 & 7. I read this to her while she breathed her last breaths here on earth & also I read it at her funeral. "How Firm A Foundation", is the hymn we sang to her several times during the two weeks she hung on after the attack. She requested it just the day before her heart attack in sunday school & was reminded how much she loved it as she reveiwed the words.
